LuxRender standalone finally supported

Last updated on by .

We added support for rendering your Blender projects with LuxRender on RenderStreet some time ago. That was all fine and we were able to serve our customers who used both Blender and Luxrender. Though the problem remained that not all people using LuxRender build their projects with Blender. We’be been working for some time on this and the fruits of that work can be seen as of this week.

Now we fully support rendering standalone Lux projects. That means that people who have .lxs file based projects can still take advantage of the increased rendering speed on our farm. As with the Blender based projects, we enforce setting either the HaltSPP or HaltTime parameter.

For these renders, we also support previews before the render is finished. In order to activate that, you need to set the WriteInterval parameter to something in your .lxs file. The parameter value is in seconds, so my suggestion is to set it somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds. We only grab the preview every 30 seconds, so setting it to less than that will not be advisable.

As with the other Lux based projects, you can launch the same job in parallel on multiple servers and then merge the resulting FLM files using the luxmerge command. In order to do that, you just need to create multiple jobs form the same project and launch them in parallel.

Let me know in the comments how this works for you.
